Before
committing to a traverse of the biggest and steepest part of the snow
fields, we stopped to further assess the snow stability. Here two members
of our group record the snow pack's layers and their characteristics.
A number of bonding tests were also done. This was all done in a position
of relative safety on an indistinct small ridge before the main section
of the snow fields.
